I call myself the catering Doctor, we help catering business working from home to 5 stars establishement to diagnose what headacke they may have and we give them support, knowledge, training on all the little thinks who can be a majore priority or nighmare for them. You would think with so many catering business closing down, every little help, support and guidlance would be welcome ! But "no" everywere we go in the catering industrie, everybody is scare, strugling and waiting for chirstmas to be over. Without security of what will happen in 2010 !

It is the wrong attitude, we all have bad days, we nedd to be focus and have a plan, a target, belief, passion, a vision. You are; We are not alone, do not berried your head in the sand or think it will get better on is own !

When you are ill, sick, you go to the doctor, get advice, take a day off, do something about it. The longer you wait to cure the problem could make you worse.  Prevention is better than cure. Act now, you havent got a cancer and you are deffinetly not dead.

It is always a solution outhere, some help, some hope and some success. Were is your business plan and your vision for your business !!

Lio, in my experience, too many businesses start up with no real plan of where they want to go or what they want to achieve. They couldn't do it now, of course - the banks would never fund them without a vision - but it certainly was the case before the recession hit,. You must find this all the time in your work.

It amazes me the number of keen home cooks who set up in catering because they enjoy cooking at home without the first idea of what it takes to be a successful caterer. By successful I mean making a profit, pleasing your customers, pleasing the taxman and keeping yourself out of hospital with a stress related illness.

It suddenly dawns on them that working while everyone else is out enjoying themselves, having to consistently cook for large numbers (if they are lucky) and spending more time trying to please the environmental health officer, tax-man and a myriad of other official bodies than actually serving food to customers, can be a real pain if you are not prepared.

Also have some solid plans in place for if the customers do not start flooding in once you open your doors (believe me, no matter how good your cooking is, customers probably won’t  be lining up waiting for you to open your door). Having some plans for raising business is imperative, how many times have you passed a new restaurant and café which have a forlorn owner looking desolately out of the window at you like the last puppy in the pet shop?

If you like cooking at home then have a dinner party. If you think you have the commitment and have done the research and it still excites you then you might, just might, be able to start a catering business.

Every business have good and bad aspects of trading. If you have experience then you can easily overcome from the situation of crisis but if you have it then you need to struggle more.
