  • Welcome to the host city - London Heathrow style

If Disney ran UK immigration and Heathrow I wouldn't have waited for 45 minutes in a disorganised shambles of a queue, in a grotty area with nothing to do but concern myself whether I am standing in the right area to get out of this as quickly as possible. I also wouldn't be reading notices which...

  • QR codes?

Not strictly social media - but very much linked. Just wanted to see if any fellow hospitality folk out there had tried incorporating QR codes in their marketing in last year? And did you find it worthwhile? We recently trialled a QR code on a construction hoarding board tease campaign - inviting passers...

  • Beginner's Guides to Social Media

It might be a bit late in the life of this Forum for this (sorry, I've only just joined), but two handy beginner's overviews for social media can be found at: http://www.ignitehospitality.com/blog/article/social-branding-friends-tweets-and-check-ins and http://www.internetmarketingforhotels.co...

  • Re: Social Networking 2011: Urban Myth or Bankable Strategy

I agree that this is the "here and now", but what makes any online marketing and sales (and therefore social media) strategy so exciting, is that it's electronic and therefore trackable from day one to the end result - no airy fairy column inches, or other measures that are 3 times removed...

  • Re: Social Networking; Who are you online?

I think it depends how you use each of these accounts - if you're using a FB or Twitter account "professionally" then that should be reflected in the persona you put across. If, however, you are using it for personal chit-chat and like to sprinkle your conversation with comments and language...

  • Distributing menus across social media channels

I'm starting a service to help restaurants provide their menus to content providers (including Facebook Pages), their own website and to mobile devices. The idea is that restaurants it will be easy to keep the menu updated, yet provide it to many different places. I would like to hear from and speak...

  • Re: Google Adwords is it worth it ?

If used in the right way, it can be very valuable. I suggest looking through this guide to get started http://services.google.com/awacademy/breeze/Beginners/index.html You can set a budget per day if necessary and also per click so you can ensure that you are not paying over the odds. I do recommend...

  • Hotel Catey Awards 2010

Since their launch in 2007, the Caterer and Hotelkeeper Hotel Cateys have already become the hotel industry’s only truly independent benchmark of operational excellence. The awards recognise, reward and celebrate the unsung heroes who work tirelessly to support the UK’s hotel sector by delivering...

  • Re: What should the 2012 Olympics mean to the Uk Hospitality Industry?

I wonder if it's actually possible to over-hype it? It is going to happen, it will be huge, so I take the view that it's generally better to be inside the tent looking out (to paraphrase slightly). I'd say embrace it and make whatever hay you can, even if that is just to capitalise on the...

  • Re: Creating a splash online

You know the saying 'there's no such thing as a free lunch'? Never truer than when applied to online marketing these days. It needs commitment & investment - not necessarily financial, but time & effort. With the latest changes to Google being rolled out, an presence in key social...
