The BBC's Great British Menu is due on our screens again this year, and I have heard that this week they begin filming.

Via Table Talk member ElizabethOnFood on Twitter, last year's winner Lisa Allen is to return for the North West, competing against former Northcote chef, Jason Birbeck and Johnnie Mountain, who runs Mosaica@The Factory in London.(Read news story here >>)

What will the concept be this year? Will more of the former winners make an appearance? Who would you like to see go up against the judges?

Kenny Atkinson to make another appearance??

Would love to see the real big names back in the competition, but think it's great how the show enables the less well known to joe public chef's display their talents!

Any rumours/confirmation as to what the format or prize will be?

I think we are going to see some new faces competing in this year's competition - which is a great platform to showcase what talent we have.

I have heard that the format will generally be the same with some past winners and higher profile chefs coming back as judges.

Sorry, KoreanTony - Kenny is not doing GBM this year!

How do they choose which chefs go on it? Do the chefs apply, or do the programme makers invite?

A little birdy has told me that Tom Kerridge is competitng once again and battling it out with Tom Aikens in the SE region. Andrew Pern and Tim Boughton are taking part and Chris Bell from the Longridge restaurant (thanks Twitter!) too!

And competing for the Midlands we have last year's competitor Richard Bainbridge from Morston Hall; Aktar Islam from Lasan, Birmingham and a chef called Sue Lewis (I am still trying to find out where she is from - so if anyone can shed some light that'd be great!!)

I've updated the page on my blog with some new competitors - there are a lot of new faces this year. Stephanie Moon and Sue Ellis (not Sue Lewis!) are also taking part. For more go to my blog

Sorry Katherine,, Johnnie doesn't own Mosacia any more, he sold it in December.

He's now opened another place called the English Pig & he did the '5Questions' recently for the blog.

He's also said that this year is going to be alot more exciting compared to last year, dread to think what that means if any of you remember him & Aiden Byrne going at it.

Thanks Chef Hermes. Yes, he got in touch with me to let me know. I wasn't aware of that. LOL - he described his GBM as a "tear jerker"... can't wait to for the series to start.
