Seen on hospital breakfast menu this week: "In line with Government policy all eggs must be served with their yolks and whites solid. if you wish to have lightly cooked eggs you must sign a disclaimer form".
Is this approach a/ sensible, given past salmonella scares or b/ another exasperating example of the Nanny State?
Salmonella can be pretty serious though it would probably be wise for hospitals to get everyone to sign a disclaimer form before entering the building, given the many risks to health therein. I don't mind a hard egg but I do object to NHS funds being used to settle compensation claims.
I would completely agree with hospitals to get everyone to sign a disclaimer form before entering the building!!!
You are more likely to get MRSA or C Diff than illness from a softly cooked egg how riduculous - runny yolk for me please! Oh and Peter totally agree with you that all patients should sign disclaimers before they enter NHS buildings....

Slight tangent but the fear of eggs has spread to France. On a recent weekend in Paris I had a Steak Tartare, the steak was raw as promised but lacked the traditional egg yolk. When I asked the waiter he blamed a change in the law that prevents raw eggs being served at all!
Does anyone else remember having to get customers to sign disclaimers when they ordered rare burgers during the BSE scare?
Do you think the menu in this restaurant will come with the warning: "caution, these dishes may contain dairy products"?
