Millennium & Copthorne Hotels has appointed Heinrich Kapfenburger as general manager of its four-star, 224-bedroom Chelsea Hotel in London.

Mr Kapfenburger's 32 years in the hotel business - which include 10 years with Hilton International - have taken him around the globe to locations including Nepal, Toronto, Morocco, Berlin, Munich, Geneva and Hong Kong.

He joins the Chelsea Hotel from CDL Group's Orchard Hotel in Singapore, where he has been general manager since 1994.

Mr Kapfenburger's responsibilities will include representing Millennium & Copthorne on the board of the joint-venture restaurant set up at the Chelsea with chef Bruno Loubet and his partner Baron Otto Stromfelt, which officially opened last Thursday.

The 100-seat restaurant, called the Chelsea Restaurant, will be run as a stand-alone business.
