Michael Gray becomes Hyatt International area director

Michael Gray, the general manager of the Hyatt Regency London - The Churchill, has been promoted to area director for Hyatt International for the UK.

The new role, effective from 1 August, will see Gray overseeing operations for all of Hyatt's UK properties, including Andaz Livepool Street, London and Hyatt Regency Birmingham.

Gray, who was Caterer's Hotelier of the Year in 2007, started his hotel career at Claridge's, London

In 1974, he joined the Carlton Tower where he held various management positions and in 1982, when Hyatt International assumed management of the hotel, Gray was promoted to resident manager.

In 1985, Gray transferred to Singapore as manager of Hyatt Regency Singapore, which then took him on to Australia where he was general manager at Hyatt Hotel Canberra, a Park Hyatt Hotel, and general manager for the 550-room, Grand Hyatt Melbourne.

In 1990, he returned to London as general manager of Hyatt Carlton Tower. In 2004, Hyatt International assumed management of The Churchill Hotel on Portman Square, London and appointed Gray as general manager.
