Elior UK has launched a cookery school at Kingston University, designed to help students create well-priced, convenient and easy-to-make dishes at home.
A new recipe will be taught in each monthly class at the Penrhyn Road campus, with an emphasis placed on healthy eating.
Paul Fisher, director of education for Elior UK, said: "At Elior it's the whole experience that matters and we're particularly excited about our new cookery courses. Open to all students, these culinary masterclasses will run once a month on a first-come, first-cook basis, with all the ingredients needed for the class provided.
"Our chefs will run the majority of the classes; however, students and staff will conduct some sessions to show just how simple and easy creating a delicious meal can be."
After each demonstration, a video of the class will be available to view online for others to follow and recreate.
Kingston University has invested £85,000 during the summer to the Penrhyn Road campus student food store, including additional counters, redecoration and new furniture.
Elior is introducing the cookery school as part of a refreshed food offer designed to appeal to students and to help them understand more about food and become more interested in creating their own meals.
The food offer, designed by Elior, includes Heavenly Burger and Pizza. Deli-concept Go Sasa, build-your-own soup offer Umami and ChU a street-food offer based on Malaysian, Indian, Oriental, American and North African cuisine will also be available and will allow a greater choice and combination of tastes than ever before.
Fisher added: "We're going to be working with students to run monthly taste tests to see which dishes are favoured among the students. Each month, the dish that is voted winner in these taste tests will be stickered a "students' favourite" on the menu."
