Firefighters tackle Kent restaurant blaze

Firefighters have tackled a blaze in a Kent restaurant that started in the early hours of this morning.

The incident on Saint James Way in Sidcup, Kent, was reported at 4.30am and is understood to have affected a three-storey building.

The ground floor restaurant was severely damaged but no injuries were reported by the London Fire Brigade, which said that 21 people had left the building before emergency services arrived on the scene.

Eight fire engines and around 40 firefighters from neighbouring fire stations in Plumstead, Erith, Bexley, Eltham, Sidcup, Bromley, and Orpington attended the incident.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by LFB's fire investigation unit and the Metropolitan Police.
