Sharp's launches premium beer range for food matching

Cornish brewer Sharp's has launched a new premium range of beers called Connoisseurs Choice, designed to be matched with food.

Sharp's head brewer Stuart Howe has created the three beers in the range - Quadrupel Ale 2011 (a dark, ruby ale, at 10% ab), Single Brew Reserve 2011 (a showcase for the Czech Saaz hops, 4.5% ABV) and Honey Spice Tripel 2011 (a 10% ABV beer with spice and fruit notes).

Howe said: "The beers in this range are all distinct. I haven't gone for a theme because the Connoisseur's Choice range is designed to show the drinker the breadth of flavours and sensations available from beer. They are packed with enticing flavour, a partner to good food and something to savour. The flavours and sensations are intended to impress and astonish but not to alienate. All of the beers are designed to be balanced and complex, remaining subtle where necessary."

The Molson Coors-owned brewer plans to run a competition through its Facebook page from June until September for Facebook users to submit their perfect beer and food matching recipes to be judged by chefs Nathan Outlaw, Jack Stein and Alyn Williams.
