Printed Cup Company opens new British plant

Lancashire’s Printed Cup Company has brought some rare cheer to the North west of England by opening a new manufacturing plant in Clitheroe.

The group – which produces more than 10 million paper cups per year – has been making the cups in China since 2007. It started operating out of founder Mark Woodward’s front room in 2005 after he was made redundant in his fifties following a long career in the packaging industry.

The company, which doubled its turnover in the past 12 months, won European Union funding to open the new plant, which starts production in the early spring and is expected to export around 75% of its cups.

“Our growth shows that customers are looking for a fast, reliable service, delivering a quality product in small quantities and the UK is the right place to base this manufacturing plant to serve Europe,” said Woodward, who has also opened a new European sales office alongside the factory.

The new factory offers short lead times for customers and ensures control through all stages of the manufacturing process. It also brings much-needed jobs to the region, which has suffered from high unemployment levels.

Nigel Evans MP of Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans officially opened the new plant earlier this month while local coffee cart franchise Caffeine Rush supplied the drinks –served, of course,  in the new made-in-Britain cups.
