Deadline for Shine Award nominations approaches

The deadline for nominations for this year's Shine Awards is fast approaching, with the closing date 4 May.

The awards, which are supported by industry training body People 1st, are the only UK awards for female talent in travel, transport, tourism and hospitality. They also commend businesses and individuals that are leading the way in supporting female development and retention.

Sharon Glancy (pictured), founder of Women 1st, said that the importance of recognising and celebrating female talent and influence is more important now than ever before.

"The Women 1st Shine Awards present an excellent opportunity for industry to celebrate our female talent and recognise the valuable contribution women make. One of the reasons why women are held back from top positions is a lack of role models. So, by recognising outstanding women, we hope others in the industry will be inspired to emulate their success," she said.

The categories for this year's awards are: Woman of the Year, Lifetime Achievement, Outstanding Entrepreneur, Mentor of the Year (male and female nominees accepted), Rising Star, Small Business and Large Business.

Nominations can be made at people1st.co.uk/shineawards and winners will be announced at a gala dinner on 19 June at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower hotel in London, following the inaugural Women 1st Conference (people1st.co.uk/conference).
