Festive cheer ahead for hotels as bookings are up 10% year-on-year

Demand for hotel rooms in London during the holiday period of 20 December 2011 to 7 January 2012 is up almost 10% on the same period last year.

According to data pulled together by hotel market intelligence provider Travelclick, committed occupancy is up 9.8% year-on-year while average daily rate (ADR) is up 10.3% for the holiday period as a whole, year-on-year.

New Year's Eve is showing the greatest improvement, with occupancy up 61.3% compared with last year (see the graph below).

There is more hotel business for both the group (up 6.2%) and transient segment (up 14.8%) over this year's holiday period too.

Most of the bookings have been made directly from suppliers' reservations and property management systems, with much of the remained coming through a hotel company website:
