Great Heck Brewing Company buys first pub

Yorkshire-based brewer the Great Heck Brewing Company has bought its first pub.

The firm bought O'Donoghue's in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, from Scottish & Newcastle for an undisclosed sum off an asking price of £175,000.

The sale of the site, which is a traditional wet-led pub with a single bar area and two-bedroom owner's accommodation, was brokered by Christie & Co.

Nicholas Thomas, from Christie & Co's Leeds Office, commented: "O'Donoghue's attracted a good level of interest with a number of bids submitted. Almost all the interest received was for continued public house use, with buyers recognising that the present market offers a great opportunity to buy freehold pubs at attractive prices. The purchase of O'Donoghue's will give the Great Heck Brewing Company the perfect opportunity to showcase its range of beers to a wider audience."

The Great Heck Brewing Company was founded by Denzil Vallance and Jason Hall. The company intends to change the pub's name back to its original of the Bull, and is also planning a refurbishment programme.
