Weekly hotel revpar slumps by 10.1% in the regions

Hotel revenue per available room (revpar) dropped by 10.1% in the regions but rallied marginally by 0.3% in London in the week ending 17 October 2009, according to figures from hospitality research company STR Global.

Revpar at London hotels advanced to £121.41, up from £121.10 in the equivalent week of 2008. Occupancy grew by 5 percentage points, to 89.5% while average room rate shrank by 4.2% to £135.64.

In the same week, regional revpar fell to £47.72 (2008: £53.10) as occupancy dropped by 2.3 percentage points (to 70.4%) and average room rate decreased by 7.2% to £67.81.

Edinburgh hotels outperformed the regional average, increasing revpar by 1.2% to £56.14 (2008: 55.45) on the back of a 3.8 percentage point rise in occupancy (to 75.5%) which counteracted a 3.9% fall in average room rate to £74.31.

Hotel revpar for the 28 days to 17 October declined by 0.9% in London (to £112.96) and by 10.8% in the provinces, to £49.45. In Edinburgh, revpar dropped by 3.5% to £63.34 over the same period.
