Regional weekly hotel revpar falls by 25%

Hotel revenue per available room (revpar) dropped by 14.6% in London and by 25.2% in the provinces in the week ending 11 April 2009, according to figures from hospitality research company STR Global.

London revpar fell to £82.04, down from £96.07 in the equivalent week of 2008. While occupancy edged ahead by 0.2 percentage points to 79.1%, average room rate dived by 14.8% to £103.71.

In the same week, regional revpar plunged to £38.89, down from £51.86 in the corresponding week of 2008. Occupancy fell by 9.4 percentage points to 61.6% and average room rate declined by 13.8% to £62.98.

Cardiff hotels fared better with revpar rising by 1.3% (to £45.82) as a 2.9% hike in average room rate counteracted a 1.1 percentage point drop in occupancy.

Hotel revpar for the 28 days to 11 April rose by 1.9% in London (to £89.10) but dropped by 6.4% in the provinces to £42.93. For the same period, revpar grew by 34.5% in Cardiff, to £53.43
