Contract caterer Charlton House has won an £8m total turnover deal at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, home of the Mary Rose.

The five-year catering contract will see Charlton House Restaurants, the public catering division of the company, manage a 250-seat public restaurant, a café, Costa outlet and onsite conferencing and hospitality.

The Royal Navy’s Portsmouth base houses Horatio Nelson’s HMS Victory and the pride of Queen Victoria’s navy, HMS Warrior 1860. It attracts more than 600,000 visitors each year.

Peter Goodship, chief executive of Portsmouth Naval Base Property Trust, said: “We are delighted that we have been able to attract a company with such a prestigious reputation in the City and we look forward to the high standard of cuisine that Charlton House Restaurants will be delivering to our visitors and corporate guests.”

Last July, contract caterer Sodexo signed up to work with Fleet Support Limited at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard to provide soft services including window cleaning, recycling and bird scaring.
