The Bar Group, owner of the Bok Bar chain and the Wishing Well Pub Group, has applied for protection from its creditors.

The Bar Group is seeking a Company Voluntary Agreement (CVA), which enables the company to continue trading while gaining temporary respite from creditors.

Insolvency practitioners Gibson Hewitt has been appointed by the company to deal with creditors according to a recorded message on its main telephone line.

The Bar Group is the second pub company to call in insolvency specialists this week after Midlands-based Bar Sport went into administration on Monday.

Liverpool-based Cains Beer Company is still awaiting discussions with its backers over its future.
