Torquay restaurant with planning permission for sale

The opportunity has arisen to buy a restaurant on the main A379 road into Torquay that could be nearly doubled in size if existing planning permission is used.

The English House restaurant, which occupies nearly two acres of land in Maidencombe, South Devon, currently offers a 30-seat restaurant, an 18-seat dining room and four double en-suite letting bedrooms.

However, owners Steve and Hilary have secured planning permission to extend the ground and first floor levels to create a 70-seat restaurant with views over the Maidencombe Valley and the countryside towards Dartmoor National Park.

The extension can also include an adjacent three-bedroom house and more car parking space.

The existing business also incorporates a fifth single bedroom or storeroom and private accommodation made up of a double bedroom, bathroom, office, lounge, and kitchen/breakfast room.

Property agent Bettesworths, which is seeking offers in excess of £695,000 for the freehold, believes the business will be of especial interest to gastropub operators.
