Tourists warned not to travel in Bangkok after bomb blasts

The Foreign Office has warned British tourists not to travel in Bangkok unless “absolutely necessary”, after a series of bomb explosions rocked Thailand’s capital.

Three people were killed and 20 injured in seven explosions, which went off almost simultaneously as revellers celebrated the New Year.

Bangkok officials were forced to cancel celebrations amid safety concerns, and hotels have increased their security measures until further notice.

The first explosion took place in the early evening on the 31 December at Bangkok’s Victory Monument, with further blasts reported in the city’s suburbs and in the Klong Tuey area.

One person was killed after a man dropped a grenade from a pedestrian bridge onto a police box.
