Travelodge unveils latest £55m project

Tuesday 27th September 2005 14:56

Budget hotel chain Travelodge has announced its biggest hotel project to date with a new £55m property destined for central London.

City Road Travelodge will be a 394-bedroom hotel containing car parking and retail space, housed in the Grade II listed Lowndes House in the City of London.

The site, previously the home of sewing machine manufacturer Singer, is expected to open in 2007 and Travelodge will retain a 35-year lease on completion.

Travelodge has promised that the new build/part conversion will be sympathetically designed to take account of Lowndes House.

Ben Lodge, Travelodge Development director, said: “We are the only UK budget hotel operator to have an aggressive expansion programme in place and it’s a great accomplishment to attain such a prestige position within the city.”

About 150 jobs are expected to be created at the new hotel project.
