It emerged this week that Edinburgh restaurateur James Sankey is still unconscious after suffering a cardiac arrest and subsequent brain damage on 15 February.

Last week it was reported that Sankey, who is in his 30s, was being treated at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh after slipping into a coma following a heart attack.

Oloroso, the restaurant he co-founded with head chef Tony Singh has now issued a statement to say that the long-term prognosis for Sankey is uncertain, and that he will return to his family home in England to recuperate.

The statement said that Sankey will be absent from work in the medium to long term but will continue to be a shareholder in the company.

Singh is heading up the restaurant's management, which includes restaurant manager Ludo Cosson and bar manager Jason Scott.
