The Hotel Marketing Association is to announce the hotel brand of the year and the conference brand of the year at its eighth Hotel Marketing Awards ceremony, to be held at its Christmas lunch at London's Savoy hotel on 17 December.
Charalambos and Elenitsa Iacovou have been fined a total of £5,000 by Barnet Magistrates' Court for failing to control a rat infestation at their Aphrodite Greek restaurant in Whetstone. It was closed after a customer trod on a dead rat in February, and reopened in March, but the owners had failed to take steps to deter further infestations.
Wetherspoon has not only won the 2001 Cannon Hygiene Loo of the Year Award, run in association with the tourist boards, but also the individual awards for the best toilets in England, Wales and Scotland. Its winning toilets are in the Ledger Building in London's Docklands, the Coliseum in Abergavenny, and the Clydesdale Inn at Lanark.
