HECTOR McDONALD, former head chef of the Sea Crest hotel and restaurant in St Brelade, Jersey, has been appointed head chef of the Blue Fish 2 in St Aubin, Jersey.

DERMOT TORNEY has been promoted to the position of conference and banqueting operations manager at the De Vere Grand hotel in Brighton. He joined the hotel six years ago as a concierge and has progressed through various roles, including trainee manager, duty manager and function bars manager.

VINDEX VALENTINO TENGKER has been promoted to resort chef at the Four Seasons hotel at Sayan in Bali. He was a chef at the Four Seasons Jimbaran Bay hotel on the island.

MARTIN KIME has joined Premier Hotels as director of acquisitions and estate management. Formerly with the hotels and leisure team at property agent FPD Savills, where he was an associate, he is now responsible for acquiring sites for Days Inn and Howard Johnson hotels.

STEPHEN KYJAK-LANE has been appointed general manager of the Kensington hotel in London. He was resident manager at the Royal Lancaster hotel in London.

ALFRED HEIM has been named general manager of the Swissôtel Cairo. He joins from Sonesta Hotel and Nile Cruises in Cairo, where he was general manager.

STEVE SMITH has joined Delia Smith's Canary Catering, at Norwich City Football Club, as deputy catering manager. He was at the Basingstoke Country Hotel in Hook, Hampshire, where he was food and beverage manager.

RODDY GORDON has been appointed director of marketing for the Grand Hyatt Dubai. He was in the marketing department of the Vinopolis wine-based visitor attraction in London.

SYLVIA JAY, a former senior civil servant, has taken up the position of director-general of the Food and Drink Federation.

VIVIEN WILLIAMS has been appointed director of sales at the Copthorne Hotel Manchester. She previously worked for Le Méridien in London, where she was director of sales for three properties.

LARRY BEADLE is retiring from his position as maintenance engineer at the Swallow hotel in Gateshead on 20 February. He has worked at the hotel for almost 35 years.

KAREN BROWNE, managing director of hospitality and leisure specialist William Murray PR, is acquiring the agency from its founder, Sue Meeson. She joined the company as marketing director two years ago and took over the role of managing director in January 2000.

MARCIA BENTLEY-JONES has moved to the role of business development manager for Marshall Human Resources. She was a consultant for the company, specialising in sales and marketing recruitment.

The Lowry hotel in Manchester has appointed MARK LYNDON sales and marketing director. He was director of sales at the Crowne Plaza in Manchester.
