Jane Andrews, the former dresser to the Duchess of York who was last week charged with the murder of her lover, worked briefly as a press officer for Claridge's, the Savoy Group's five-star hotel in Brook Street, London.

A spokeswoman for the Savoy Group confirmed that Andrews, 33, had briefly been PR manager at Claridge's during October and November 1999.

Julia Record, group manager of public relations at Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, was PR manager at the Savoy Group when Andrews was recruited at Claridge's.

She said of Andrews' departure from Claridge's within a fortnight: "It was her decision, she did not feel it was the right position for her. She had not done much public relations before, apart from in retail where she felt more comfortable."

After leaving Claridge's, Andrews found work with Chelsea jeweller Theo Fennell.
