Four teams of students from colleges at either end of the UK are through to the grand final of the Nestlé Toque d'Or 2000 competition to be held in May.
Glasgow College of Food Technology, Glenrothes College, Somerset College and Southampton City College were the four highest-scoring of the 32 teams competing in heats held at Hotelympia last month. Each team of three young chefs had to serve a main course, dessert and coffee to eight diners within a themed restaurant area they had created themselves.
Each of the four teams will now work with one of the four mentoring food service companies - Compass, Gardner Merchant, Aramark and Sutcliffe - and under the guidance of Twin Chef Foods to prepare for the final, where they will serve their menus to members of the general public.
The teams: Glasgow College of Food Technology (Aileen McMonagle, Victoria Zoers, Susan McArthur); Glenrothes College (Amy Cunningham, Neil Borthwick, Gillian Sneddon); Somerset College (Emma Atkins, Lisa Gilmour, Chris Witham); Southampton City College (Benjamin Barrett, Claire Meadler, Thomas Adlam).
