Salary watch

Thursday 27th January 2000 00:00

Salary watch is a regular feature in Caterer, designed to provide a guide to salaries in different areas of the industry. Every four weeks we will supply information on a different job, courtesy of Berkeley Scott Selection.

Reception managers

The position of reception manager has almost replaced the role of head receptionist, and is now focused solely on the guest relations and front desk areas. The reservations function in many hotels has been taken away from the front of house area, and the responsibility has been given either to sales and marketing or to a separate revenue development department. This has had an effect on salary levels and packages offered.

Reception manager packages will generally include basic salary, uniform, dry cleaning, temporary accommodation and a bonus scheme. The bonus schemes vary depending on whether the hotel is privately owned or part of a large national or international company.
