Blackfriars spice

Thai-Malaysian restaurant group Colonial Catering is to open its fifth Silks & Spice restaurant in London's Blackfriars next month. The 200-seat Silks & Spice City will have an adjoining 70-seat brasserie, bar and lounge area.

Schwab appointment

Annie Schwab, who runs Winteringham Fields restaurant in Lincolnshire with her husband Germain, has been made commissioner general in the UK for Eurotoques, the chefs' organisation.

KFC will fry again

The KFC restaurant in Derry, Northern Ireland, that had to be demolished after being petrol-bombed during riots, is to be rebuilt, the company said last week. KFC did not reveal the cost.

Pizza profusion

Perfect Pizza plans to open 100 new restaurants over the next five years, creating 2,000 jobs. The announcement follows a £1.3m renaming exercise, placing Gino's Dial-a-Pizza, 241 Pizza and Pronto Pizza under the Perfect Pizza name.

Camp revamp

Developers have been given the go-ahead to revamp a former Pontins holiday camp in Christchurch, Dorset. The project will include a 60-bedroom hotel with conference facilities and a restaurant.

McDonald's assault

Matthew Henderson, a student from Sheffield, has been remanded on bail after admitting assaulting two people in a McDonald's restaurant in London's Villiers Street.
