Restaurants and hotels with more than 10 Italian wines listed qualify for the Italian Wine List of the Year Awards. They are sponsored by the Circle of Wine Writers and The Italian Trade Centre. John E Fells & Sons has appointed Wine Importers of Edinburgh (0131-556 3601) to distribute Chartreuse liqueur and Janneau Armagnac in Scotland. Until now, Fells distributed direct in Scotland.
The South African co-operative KWV's Cellar Chardonnay was placed first in its category in the Chardonnay du Monde Competition in Burgundy last month. The Cathedral Cellar range, developed in the late 1980s, is available in the UK in four grape varieties - Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinotage.
Miguel Torres SA has taken over worldwide sales and marketing for another Penedès producer, Jean Leon. Along with Miguel Torres, Jean Leon pioneered the use of classic French grape varieties in Penedès. Today, the estate has 60ha under vine planted with Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. Jean Leon's wines will be distributed in future by Torres's UK importer, John E Fells & Sons.
