HEG debates joint action on vacancies

The 18 members of the Hotel Employers Group (HEG) are considering co-operation in the area of staff vacancies by starting up a jobs newsletter.

At last week's quarterly meeting of the HEG, whose members include personnel directors from Holiday Inn, Stakis, Swallow, Forte and Copthorne, the possibility of circulating vacancies among the membership was debated.

"We had a vigorous discussion about the jobs newletter and are now seriously considering it," Alan Makinson, group personnel and training manager at De Vere Hotels, told Caterer.

"We recognise that many of our staff rotate between the 18 members of HEG already and the jobs newsletter would be a way of saving money and speeding up the process," he added.

Currently De Vere Hotels, like many other hotel groups, circulates its vacancies between its hotels on a weekly basis. If the HEG scheme takes off such a scheme would operate between all 18 hotel groups.

In particular, supervisory and management jobs would be advertised between hotels, said Mr Makinson.

The HEG may look at jointly funding a person to run the newsletter and will discuss the idea again at its next meeting in three months' time.
