Cross-border shopping gets warning
The Wine & Spirit Association is to update its cross-border shopping survey in September. It aims to convince the Commons Treasury & Civil Service Select Committee of the damage done by cross-border shopping with the present disparity in duty.
Director Peter Lewis said: "We feel the research will provide the ammunition needed to convince Government that cross-border shopping needs to be countered by reducing excise on wine and spirit in the November budget."
Pernod moves
THe Pernod bus, an antique French bus converted to contain a bar, is on a promotional tour of the UK this summer.
In July it visited the Birmingham Jazz Festival, and around 2,000 people went to the bus to drink Pernod as the French do, with a glass of water.
