Fraudster convicted

FLAMBOYANT businessman Spencer Trethewy was last week convicted of running up thousands of pounds in unpaid bills in London's finest hotels using a false name.

During a two-week stay at the Halcyon Hotel he ran up a bill of more than £7,000, which included food, wine and telephone calls.

He tricked the Novotel hotel in Hammersmith out of £4,596, while at the Ebury Court Hotel in Victoria he owed £2,244.

In addition, he owed £700 to Caspers Bar Grill in Mayfair and had debts for suits, mobile telephones and hire cars, including one driven by a chauffeur.

Trethewy was remanded in custody for sentencing by Knightsbridge crown court.
