SUMMIT Catering Services last week sold its interests in its Midlands and West companies to Compass Services and Shaw Catering respectively for undisclosed sums.
The sale gives Compass a further 31 contracts, largely in staff catering, and a company set up about three years ago in a 50-50 joint venture between Summit and Trevor Chilver, who became managing director.
A Compass spokesman said Mr Chilver would remain in that post and the company would retain its name of Summit Catering Services Midlands at least for the first year. After that time the name might change but it would retain a distinct identity from that of Compass.
"The idea is to offer our clients the flexibility of a small company with the value and benefits being part of Compass can bring," the spokesman said.
A spokeswoman for Shaw Catering said the deal would see Summit's West company effectively merging with Shaw. Itwill bring 18 contracts which Shaw will operate under itsown name.
Alan Walker, managing director of Summit Catering Services, said disposing of its regional operations would allow the company to concentrate on its core business of 50 contracts in London, the home counties and Sheffield.
