Weekly hotel revpar up 3.3% in London but down 6.7% elsewhere

Hotel revenue per available room (revpar) dropped by 6.7% in the regions but improved by 3.3% in London in the week ending 31 October 2009, according to figures from hospitality research company STR Global.

Revpar at London hotels grew to £108.49, up from £105.05 in the equivalent week of 2008. Occupancy increased by 5.1 percentage points, to 86.8% while average room rate shrank by 2.8% to £124.96.

In the same week, regional revpar fell to £45.87 (2008: £49.15) as occupancy dropped by 0.3 percentage points (to 70.6%) and average room rate decreased by 6.3% to £64.98.

Hotels in Manchester fared worse on a year-on-year basis. Revpar dropped by 8.8% to ££52.35 (2008: 57.39) thanks to a 9.5% fall in average daily rate (to £68.65) which wiped out a 0.6 percentage point increase in occupancy, to 76.2%.

Hotel revpar for the 28 days to 31 October edged ahead by 0.1% in London (to £112.21) but fell by 8.4% in the provinces, to £47.68. In Manchester, revpar shrunk by 0.2% to £59.30 over the same period.
