Weekly hotel revpar rises by 10.1% in London

Hotel revenue per available room (revpar) rose by 10.1% in London but fell by 0.4% across the regions in the week ending 30 January 2010, according to figures from hospitality research company STR Global.

Revpar at London hotels increased to £103.82, up from £94.29 in the equivalent week of 2009. Occupancy grew by 3.9 percentage points, to 80.3%, while average room climbed by 4.8% to £129.36.

In the same week, regional revpar declined to £40.82 (2009: £40.97). Occupancy rose by 2.6 percentage point (to 63.8%) but average room rate decreased by 4.4% to £64.01.

Birmingham hotels outperformed the regional average on revpar, which increased in the city by 4.4% to £46.63 (2009: £44.65). Although average room rate in Birmingham slid by 6% (to £62.86), occupancy soared by 7.4 percentage points to 74.2%.

Hotel revpar for the 28 days to 30 January grew by 7.9% in London (to £84.25) but dropped by 5.2% in the provinces, to £34.74. In Birmingham, revpar dropped by 11.9%, to £34.73, over the same period.
