Sodexo recognised for commitment to sustainable food

Global food service and facilities management giant Sodexo has been commended for its long-term commitment to serving sustainable food.

London Food Link - part of the food campaign group Sustain - praised Sodexo for its record on Fairtrade products, animal welfare, supporting British farming and sustainable fish.

The caterer's commitments to sustainable food procurement form part of its sustainability strategy to 2020, called "The Better Tomorrow Plan".

Sodexo, which has a portfolio of Fairtrade products with an annual value of £1m, offers products from RSPCA Freedom Food approved farmers, Marine Stewardship Council certified sustainable fish, and Red Tractor produce that can be traced back to a British farm.

Tamsin Gane (pictured right), Sodexo's sustainable procurement manager, was presented with a certificate of commendation by Jonathan Pauling, a member of the Greater London Authority Food Team, and Kath Dalmeny (pictured left), policy director of Sustain, at the Good Food for London Conference.

Michelle Hanson, commercial director for Sodexo UK and Ireland, said the company welcomed the recognition of its commitment to sustainable food procurement.

"We have set ourselves ambitious targets to help Sodexo become a world leader in sustainable business practice and we are working hard and successfully towards achieving them," she added.
