Women 1st Shine Awards 2012 open for nominations

Nominations are being invited for the Women 1st Shine Awards 2012, which recognise outstanding female achievement in the hospitality, passenger transport, travel and tourism industries.

The awards also commend those businesses and individuals that are leading the way in supporting female development and retention.

Sharon Glancy, founder of Women 1st, said that the importance of recognising and celebrating female talent and influence is more important now than ever before.

"The Women 1st Shine Awards present a fantastic opportunity to highlight the vital role that women play in our sector, as well as the unique approach and skills that they bring to the table," she explained. "Last year's awards were an amazing success, and we are delighted to launch the 2012 entries to identify and recognise the unsung heroes in our vibrant industry."

The categories for this year awards are: Woman of the Year, Lifetime Achievement, Outstanding Entrepreneur, Mentor of the Year (male and female nominees accepted), Rising Star, Small Business and Large Business.

Nominations can be made at people1st.co.uk/shineawards and entries close on the 4th May 2012.

Winners will be announced at a gala dinner on the 19th June 2012 at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower Hotel, following the inaugural Women 1st Conference (people1st.co.uk/conference).

Women 1st is the thought leadership, training and mentoring programme, developed by sector skills council People 1st, to help women working in hospitality, passenger transport, travel and tourism achieve their career aspirations. While 58 percent of the hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism workforce is female, only six percent of board director positions are held by women.
