Marco Pierre White bans Foster's and Strongbow from his pub

Marco Pierre White has upset locals by banning Foster's lager and Strongbow cider from one of his pubs.

The popular drinks have been removed from sale at his Angel pub in Lavenham, Suffolk because White plans to create an authentic ale and cider house in the village, according to The Drinks Business.

"I don't like Foster's and Strongbow. I like traditional ales and ciders. If they don't like that, I'm sorry," he explained.

"When I take over an establishment I see myself as the caretaker. I accept not everyone will agree with my decisions."

The celebrity chef bought the pub along with five others in March as part of the acquisition of the Maypole Group, which had collapsed into administration last year.

However his plans haven't been well received by some regulars, who feel they're being pushed out of their local pub.

Rod Benson described the Angel, which was first licensed in 1420, as the heart of Lavenham. He said: "We like a drink, but we're not lager louts. When the drinks we like disappeared, we got the message he doesn't really want us there."

In his efforts to attract a different kind of beer drinker and reduce "laddish" behaviour, White has also banned swearing, tattoos and dogs on chairs.
