The Feathers hotel in Woodstock, Oxfordshire, has joined the Grand Heritage Hotels International consortium, bringing its membership to 100. It has 13 Scottish hotel members and three all-inclusive resorts in the West Indies.

Belgo Group's chain of Italian restaurants, Strada, is opening its fifth branch on 14 December. The 150-seat venue in London's West End will serve a variety of pizza and pasta dishes and grills. Two further branches are planned by spring 2001.

A branch of Oi! Bagel opened in the West One Shopping Centre in London's Oxford Street on 5 December. The company intends to open a further 24 across the UK over the next three years.

Catering students at South Trafford College in Manchester organised the catering last week for the 40th birthday party of television's Coronation Street, held on the studio set and attended by past and present stars of Britain's longest-running television soap. The food included fish and chips from Harry Ramsden's and sticky toffee pudding cooked by the students.

The number of pages looked at by users of the Caterer & Hotelkeeper Web site, Caterer.com, has now passed the seven million mark. The site celebrated its first birthday recently and now has a steady 5,000 users logging on every week. Extensive improvements to the site will be made in the next couple of weeks.
