John Greenwood, former head of contract caterer Compass's UK and Ireland division, has joined motorway services operator RoadChef as chief executive.
Greenwood lost his job in May after Compass merged with Granada.
RoadChef said Greenwood's appointment marked the next stage in the company's development. The chief executive's position is a newly created role.
RoadChef was bought in 1998 by investment firm Nikko. It has 19 motorway service areas with total sales of £260m a year and employs about 1,800 staff.
