Revpar falls by nearly 10% and 15% in London and the regions

Hotel revenue per available room (revpar) dropped by 9.7% in London and by 14.6% in the provinces in the week ending 16 May 2009, according to figures from hospitality research company STR Global.

London revpar fell to £101.28, down from £112.15 in the equivalent week of 2008. Occupancy dropped by 2.5 percentage points to 81% while average room rate declined by 6.9% to £125.06.

In the same week, regional revpar slipped to £50.10, down from £58.68 in the corresponding week of 2008. Occupancy was down by 4.2 percentage points to 71.4% and average room rate, at £70.14, was 9.7% lower than a year ago.

Manchester hotels fared worse, posting a revpar fall of 16.3% (to £63.76) as a 19% plunge in average room rate counteracted a 2.6 percentage point rise in occupancy.
 
Hotel revpar for the 28 days to 16 May fell by 3.8% in London (to £103.37) and by 13.6% in the regions, to £46.61. Manchester hotels saw revpar plummet by 14.4% to £56.84.
