The Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA) has teamed up with Harden's, which will become the first restaurant guide to highlight establishments' sustainability credentials alongside its ratings for food, service and atmosphere.
Harden's reviews, both online and in print, will indicate which listed restaurants have completed the SRA's Sustainability Rating Survey. The move comes after Giles Coren became the first food critic to include SRA sustainability ratings in his reviews for The Times last year.
More than 250 restaurants have been rated so far, with a further 250 currently undergoing the process. By clicking on a link in the Harden's website, diners will be able to read the SRA's report on a restaurant's sustainability.
Mark Linehan, managing director of the SRA, said: "As increasing numbers of consumers look to restaurants to match the values they practise at home, working with the foremost restaurant guide is the obvious next step for us. Making an informed dining choice just became so much easier."
Richard Harden, co-publisher of Harden's, added: "We are delighted to be the first UK restaurant guide to include sustainability ratings, and more importantly such a rating based on an objective assessment process of the nature offered by the SRA.
"Like Harden's, the SRA rates quality eating places of all types right across the UK, so the fit between our two approaches is very strong."
